It’s been nearly a month since Kassadin’s release in League of Legends: Wild Riftand already boasts a 51.86% win rate and ranks fifth among the best mid lane champions in Southeast Asia, according to wildstats.gg.
This even after he had a health nerf in Patch 3.3b, so it says a lot about how well he’s been doing lately.
With a smaller map Wild splitthe Void Walker has the potential to take down enemies and act like an S + champion when used correctly.
And while he’s not too strong early in the game, you can definitely take advantage of his late-game mobility due to his ult’s low cooldown.
Read on to find out how to dominate the Rift with Kassadin:
Void Stone (Passive)
When Kassadin casts a spell near a visible enemy champion, he gains a magical shield.
Void Stone is very useful for protecting Kassadin early in the game, where his damage and mobility are still low. The magical shield will rise whenever he casts a spell on or near a visible enemy.
Null sphere (skill 1)
Shoot an orb that deals magic damage and silences the first enemy hit.
Null Sphere is both a poke skill and a disengage. Silence will allow you to prevent the enemy from casting abilities at you or your team. At the start of the game, this skill will also help you face the enemy in mid lane and farm decently.
Nether Blade (Skill 2)
Upgrade his next basic attack inside to gain range and deal bonus magic damage and restore a percentage of missing mana on hit. If Nether Blade kills the target, the remaining recovery time is reduced.
Safe farming is important to Kassadin as you focus on scalability in the mid to late game. Nether Blade is great for wave clears thanks to its long range and after effects. If you kill a minion, it restores 50% of the cooldown. You can continuously cultivate with it from a long distance.
Force surge (skill 3)
Deals magic damage to enemies in a cone and slows them. Force Pulse is empowered after other spells are cast nearby, dealing increased magic damage and slowing instead.
Force Pulse can deal massive damage to the enemy and can be used after chasing enemies with your ult. Since her area of effect is decent and she can hit at least two champions and multiple minions, consider maximizing this ability first.
Flashes at the target location and deals magic damage to nearby enemies. Casting Riftwalk causes the next Riftwalk within a certain amount of time to deal more damage and cost double the mana. (Can be charged up to 3 times).
The best of Kassadin is what makes it special.
Riftwalk acts like an enhanced lightning bolt: it helps him get in and out of team fights and even get through walls. You also inflict magical damage on your enemies and this allows you to easily chase them late in the game.
Kassadin is a champion of mid-to-late game scalability.
That said, it’s pretty much useless at the start of the game, so don’t go for gank and early game saves unless the enemy’s HP is low and you have a teammate or two to help you out. Ganking at level 5 will never happen, so let it go and save the flashy plays for later.
The motto at the start of the game for Kassadin is to survive and thrive through agriculture.
Grab health items like the Ruby Crystal (don’t get the books yet) until you can purchase its first major item: Rod of Ages.
Maximize his third ability first to give him more damage and mini trades by using a spell on visible enemies. This will activate his passive shield as he returns to safety.
Also, make sure your Kassadin at the start of the game has high HP until he is fully online.
Mid-game (level 9), Kassadin gets stronger. Here you can perform a combo using your max and skill three.
Maintain your ultimate charge up to level 2 and only charge it up to level 3 if you are preparing to perform a gank or join a team fight.
Once Kassadin reaches level 13, there is hardly any counter available for now (except Zed or Pantheon), so as long as you work with your team, you can work your way through victory.
One of the best builds to consider is the Scaling Riftwalker build. This is a double ladder course that uses both Rod of Ages and Archangel’s Staff.
This is a very popular build, as both items are crucial to Kassadin’s survival and provide mana.
As mentioned above, first grab low-level health items like Ruby Crystal to help him survive until you can purchase Rod of Ages. So you can go for Tears of Goddess, Ionian Boots of Lucidity on the way to get the Arch Angel Staff.
Prioritize Stasis Spell if you feel the enemy team is taking too much damage. Otherwise, you can try Rabadon’s Deathcap first if you want to get stronger faster. Then take the Void Staff for magical penetration.
The 5th element is situational. While most guides will tell you to pick Crystalline Reflector (which will make the most sense for most situations), you may have to flex to grab an Infinity Orb instead if the enemy team has a lot of healing and support.
You can also opt for Morellonomicon for additional magical penetration if you’re dealing with tanks.
Some teams can counter the Voidwalker with chained CC champions like Varus or Lux. Choose Ionian Quicksilver instead of Stasis Enchant to remove any CC effects until you can get around it faster.
Runes and spells
Electrocution is still Kassadin’s best keystone because it deals a good amount of damage, which you’ll need early in the game to get past your enemies.
You can also take Conqueror and Fleet Footwork as keystones. Fleet Footwork works best against champions who can hit it hard.
For spells, choose Flash, so the Voidwalker has more room to move, and Ignite, to handle the start of the game.
Are you having fun with Kassadin? Have you thought about learning his kit? Hopefully, this guide has helped you appreciate it better and have more fun playing it.
